  • These songs seemed to pour out in pretty quick fashion. Again, they were recorded on the floor of a closet or bedroom (just like the last EP), while my two little guys were sleeping. A lot of the songs on this EP are based around the concept of moving and the feelings associated with that experience...seems things like moving become different when you see the way they are affecting your family.

The recording was done on a laptop with one mic, an electric guitar, an acoustic guitar, an electric bass, and a keyboard/midi controller. "In a Whisper" was the first tune written and recorded, followed by a writing jumble of "Pieces," and "Easy Spent." Those were kind of recorded on the same couple of nights, although, I came back to "Pieces" later and reworked much of it. After that "Another Door" was written and recorded within a few days. "Amusia" was a quick, almost by accident experiment that was just too ugly not to include, and finally, I wrote "Five Months" as an opener...and that's the abbreviated story of this EP.

I honestly hope it's as enjoyable to listen to as it was to make.

Reviews:
"We get the feeling people are struggling to categorise musicians like Jake Davidson, otherwise known as Two Suns...take your pick from folktronica, indietronica, nu-gaze to mention just a few. The simple fact is that it's a case of singer/songwriters utilising the tools that are available to them. And in Davidson's case, those tools are utilised well."
---Bowlegs Music Review---

"Sonic perfection."
---The Devil Has the Best Tuna---

"Two Suns is singer/songwriter Jake Davidson who has taken his gentle tunes out of the coffeehouse-folk abyss and into the CMJ approved pop arena with his acoustic guitar working within a synthetic but sparse framework."
---Impose Magazine---

"Self-Addressed is six songs worth of ethereal electro-pop. Davidson produces pillowy layers of whitewash to the music, particularly to his voice, which is used as much of instrument as it is a traditional lead vocal performance."

Bio:
Two Suns, the solo project of Jake Davidson, has been writing and recording his dreamy mix of laptop electronica and live instrumentation since late 2010. The name Two Suns is derived from the fact that Davidson is the father of two young sons, and it is these loving, familial (wife and sons) relationships that serve as inspiration for the majority of Davidson’s songwriting.
With a varied musical background, ranging from playing gospel bluegrass on upright bass to fronting a black metal band, Davidson embodies the true eclectic nature of today’s musician. Although bass guitar is his instrument of choice, Davidson has worked to improve his facility as a multi-instrumentalist. This development has led to flashiness and note flurries being set aside in favor of song progression and substance. That substance has been the foundation for the Two Suns project.
March 2011 saw the release of Two Suns’ self-titled debut EP. This five song collection was met with a considerable amount of online attention considering its bedroom project beginnings and independent release. Now, four months later Davidson returns with a six song EP entitled Self-Addressed. In this release, Two Suns finds more consistency of style and a deeper development of identity. Sometimes labeled Nu-Gaze or Indietronica, Two Suns subscribes to the simple notion that you should “make the music you want to hear” regardless of labels. So sit back and relax as this mix of electronic, driving beats and melodic song structure invites you to enjoy a laidback psychedelic experience.

about

Two Suns Norman, Oklahoma

So I looked at the bio I had and it seemed insanely pretentious…well, maybe not that bad…but definitely not “me.” I tried to revise, but it was too far gone…so here is the new one: I’m Jake…I love making music, and I love my family. I wrote and played everything on this album, and I had a fantastic time doing it. I released two EP’s in 2011, so if you like this album, you might check those out. ... more

Track Name: Five Months Gone By
FIVE MONTHS GONE BY
-----
-----
Five months gone by,
with heavy heads held high,
our actions filled with pleas,
defined by our release.

It came as a reprieve,
confronting our belief.

We wait and hope for this,
so we bear the risk,
our eyes with forward gaze,
imagine better days.

Then everything changes...
perspective is quick to rearrange us.

It came as a reprieve,
confronting our belief.

Then everything changes...
perspective is quick to rearrange us.

Five months gone by...

Track Name: Another Door
ANOTHER DOOR
-----
-----
The uncertainty can slip into your day,
you're left repeating, a thousand times you say.

A picture of shadows rests by the bed,
developed in the dark room of my head.

Unlock your doors; I'd like to come inside...
to live, to live and not to hide.

We walk these floors and the distance that we find
is far less between us than what we've left behind.

Unlock your doors; I'd like to come inside...
to live, to live and not to hide.

The uncertainty can slip into your day,
you're left repeating, a thousand times you say.

Track Name: Easy Spent
---EASY SPENT---

...and it passes
still it stares you in the face.
You curse it as you close your eyes;
you're fighting, but you're running in place.

Optimism is easy spent,
hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on.
You'll never see just where it went,
but you’ll miss it when it’s gone.

It’s the rage you want,
it’s the hate you push,
You’ll fit right in, you’ll fit right in.

…and it passes
You start anew but never stops,
it never stops, it never stops.

Optimism is easy spent,
hang on, hang on, hang on, hang on.
You'll never see just where it went,
but you’ll miss it when it’s gone.
Track Name: In a Whisper
---IN A WHISPER---

A simple mask we can wear with each other,
A basic tale, we’ll share our struggle.
But our stories, they’re each other,
and we’ll share them in a whisper

And we taste it, but our eyes lack the vision
…to confront them.

Our truest welcome
came at our exit;
And the fist that were waving,
Became the hands that needed…

They’ll drop right down to the lowest.
They float on top of suspicion.
Distraction, that is their mission.

And we taste it, but our eyes lack the vision
…so we tell them in a whisper.
Track Name: Pieces of...replaced
---Pieces of...replaced---

…and we find it,
Was it lost?
Could have been our wish,
but all our coins were tossed.

Sprawled out on the floor,
Asking simple questions,
pieces of happy,
your brown eyes bright.
Will you still sing our songs at night?

Your head resting,
shoulder wet with your tears,
The words rang out into the night,
replacing all your fears.

Sprawled out on the floor,
Asking simple questions,
pieces of happy,
your brown eyes bright.
Will you still sing our songs at night?

These songs that you know,
Will they find some space
to mean and then to grow?
Or just like so much,
the things in your life, the times in your life, will they be replaced?
